I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C when I was 13. I am now 19 years old.?

So far, I haven't had many "significant" problems with it, that I know of. Im not "for" the whole interferon treatment, because my mom was on it, and it didn't do much for her. I know that every person is different, but I want to find other ways to help. Does anybody know of ANY kind of natural supplements, juices, herbs, ANYTHING to help fight the disease? I know I cant "get rid" of hepatitis, but I want to find a way to "manage it" without having to become severly ill, at least not for a while.

How long does it generally take to become seriously ill from the disease? I believe I was born with it. My mom got it through a blood transfusion, and they believe I contracted it through birth.

Any help would be great, I've just been scared lately.

Ok, well hep C can vary, and the mos important thing is to get a doctor and follow up with him (or her) regularly to see when treatment is necessary. As for the interferon, I won't like about that, it's very difficult to tolerate, the course can go up to a year and it can cause side-effects similar to having the flu (so imagine having the flu for a year, not a lot of fun). On the other hand, it is often quite effective, though unfortunately not for everyone, I don't think you should eliminate it from consideration though.

I do not know of any "natural" remedies that are at all effective in eliminating the disease, and I would be VERY skeptical of anyone who claims to have one but is unable to produce proof (in the form of case-control studies published in a reputable, peer-review journal). I don't think you should forsake the more traditional medicine in favor of alternative treatments for this.

Hepatitis C can follow many different courses in different people, it can go many, many years without requiring treatment, and the best advice I can give you is to find a doctor who knows how to manage it (if you primary care doctor does not, then ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist) and follow along regularly.
Reply:I wish I had this book..I just gave away my last one. Hepatitis C Choices..it has all different ways to treat HCV. I did do the treatment and I did clear the virus. I'm not pro meds..I'm pro life..feel free to e-mail me directly. Copy and paste the link into your browser..its a very large PDF file so try and just search for the herbal way to treat.
