Help can I do anything?

I was trying to clear up some old files from my sons computer and somehow managed to format the C drive removing windows 98. Is there anything I can do to restore it? I have tried creating a boot disk but it hasn't helped and the comp keeps asking for a systems disk (which unfortunately we don't have as he was given an old comp with windows already on it.)





Any help would be appreciated as my 8yr old is distraught at the moment.

Reply:there are unformat programs that can sometime recover some of the data.





Don't hold out hopes for a successful restore however.

A little searching on EBay turned this up. Most have Windows 98 listed for about $70. This one was $33.

Reply:You've got some good answers, but whatever you do, don't do what Chulan suggests. First off, it's illegal. Second, it's downloading a cracked version of XP onto your computer. Odds are good that it's pre-infected with viruses, trojans and malware that will steal any bank account information or passwords, infect your files and generally make your life miserable. Spend a few dollars to buy the program legally, which will guarantee that it's safe. Otherwise you'll be looking at an even bigger mess.
Reply:um how did u get rid of windows 98, its impossible unless you were working froom dos its like trying to eat your own mouth... what you might have done is destroyed or deleted vital files for win98 but deleting it all a bit impossible

and here is how to install ares ( note using p2p software is illegal i knw that but i use mostly nuthing happens and if u have a anti virus software u dont have to worry about virus, if u want to buy it from the shop good luck but it is expensive and some shops sell duplicates and they download through p2p softeware them self and i dont knw it is ur choise to dowload or buy not mine)

and ur ares downloading will begin after downloading it run the setup and follow the instruction on it and install it then run the software and go to search tab and seacrh for windows xp , when u get the list check for the best one on by the number of users downloaded it and check the size which will be shown next to it and check ths one with a mb of 600 to 700mb some people fake it maybe a virus so check for the size i gave u , burn it to a a disk and run it in the pc of ur daughter and follow this instruction


boot the computer in CD-rom or DVD-rom first


in bios setup, and restart the computer,


1. it will ask PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD-ROM


2. press ANY KEY,


3. automatic windows will start loading setup files,


automatic setup files is load it will ask you enter the product key,


4. ENTRY THE PRODUCT KEY and click next, then license agreement click I ACCEPT,


5. relax for 30minutes it will complete all the installation


6. set time


7. register with microsoft online now, click NO,


8 computer will restart,


9. automatic, monitor, printer, audio, video driver will load and restart many ( it is OK)


10 final windows XP or 2000 introductions will display (click no)


11. you windows OS is ready to use,





any problem in set error will cleanly tell you what happened and what to do





i see , well if u have made a back-up before u have formated the disk , then u could restore but not the window 98,u will need to get the windows 98 cd and install the windows then run the back up Cd to restore the files, And i would advice u to install windows XP , it is better,

Well get her windows xp, u can get windows xp by a p2p software (free) well if u dont knw how to get it post and i will look into it and i will tell u how and to cheer ur daughter install windows xp and say her i got u better windows :D,
