it came with a (D) drive and a (C) drive, i wanted to erase (d) drive and combine the 2 into one (C) drive, i have managed to do this, i now have 56gb unallocated space, how would i allocate this free space to (C) drive?
I have a accer aspire laptop?
hi rob
this is the usual way acer partition their products,i have a acer desktop (t671) and a acer laptop(aspire 9303) and both have a single drive partitioned into drive c and d
your best option is to use a start up disk(only if you have a floppy drive) and then run the fdisl command prompt which will allow you to delete partitions and create just one single drive, this isnt possible without a floppy drive and also note: if you want to use your acer recovery disk to reinstall your operating system then this will create the two partitions again so you will have to use another copy of either windows xp or vista
however even without a floppy drive you can use a linux program called "gparted" avalible from http://gparted.sourceforge.net/index.php... is a live cd(boots from cd and wont install) so you can use this to combine the two partitions into one, however you may have to leave a small partiton(about 1gb) as unallocated space
i dont know why acer do this,it may be so you think you are getting a better deal and it may make newbies to p.c,s and laptops think they have 2 hard drives when infact they have just a single drive
the main problem is that c drive holds the operating system so any utility you use has to be good and trustworthy or this could mess up your laptop
any problems let me know
good luck rob !
Reply:If you install windows xp onto it you can delete the partion from the setup screen this will allocate it as one drive. Then you can load windows on that drive go for the quick format then just follow the on screen info mate.
Reply:its good to have 2 drive. you can save data on d drive. if your windows become trouble you can format and reinstall new os to drive c without loosing any data on drive d. rite?? beside it can little slow your lappy performance in a single big drive.
Reply:You're going to need to find a partition manager program such as partition magic...OR, you can backup your system to usb disk, repartition the drive, and then restore it back. (whole topic of discussion how to do this).
Reply:You need to use disk manager.
However back up all important data First ! ! !
C and D can be on the same physical drive it just depends how its partitioned.
Reply:All the others are external drives. only the C drive is in you computer.
