How do I make my computer run faster and smoother ?

I have already max out the about of RAM that the computer can hold will upgrading the window to XP help with this. Because the computer always freezes when I get to pages that are high graphics. Will someone please tell me what i can do to make it run faster?

windows xp need at least 256 of ram,333ghz processor,20gb of hard drive,and 16mb of graphic card.


in fact windows xp is much better and stable than windows 98,u may not have any problem runing xp on ur pc if u do the following things:


1-disable all additional visual effect in windows xp by going to the


control panel/system/performance/visual effects/and choose best performance,this will diable all additional effects in windows xp.


2-don't put a high resolution desktop wallpaper(it's better to disable the wallpaper)


3-don't use more than 800x600 display resolution


4-don't put many programs in windows startup,u can modify or control windows startup programs by click on start,then choose run,then type msconfig and go to startup section.


5-use a good tweak utility to clean ur hard disk space regulary,clean ur system registry and optimize many other features in windows xp.....i recommend using tuneup utilities,or (ccleaner as a free tool)


6-use windows xp defrag program to defrag ur hard disk files and folders.


7-use a light antivirus such as avg or avast.....may be no32 will work also good with u,and don't use IE 7 cuz it's too heavy....IE 6 that come with windows xp is very excellent and secure if u update all security issues in xp from microsoft update.


8-configure ur virtual memory not less than 1500mb (1.5 time form ur original ram size).

Reply:the processor is probably slow and video card too so might as well get a new 1
Reply:To tell you the truth, you are probaly better off just getting a new comp, even a cheap new one will be a lot faster than that. I see that the comp has just an 873mhz proccessor and you don't have much space on the hard drive (almost 14gigs) save yourself the trouble of upgrading to XP and get a new comp with Vista. $400 will probaly save you a lot of trouble and time. Found a cheap comp at best buy, look at the source list.
