Here are my results from my report card A, A, A, A, A, B+, and a D(ouch). Well I'm a "regular" high school Jr., Math since middle school was always my worst subject. From middle school to high school i've always managed to get C's and B's but this year i feel like im taking an Accelarated Algebra 2 course when the class is suppose to be regular or college prep. If the teacher is going to treat us like AP students than atleast change that "R" to an "AP". The D pretty much screwed up my honor roll and GPA but will that D (in the most important year of high school) effect my chances of getting into a good college? Should I switch out of that class?
Will one D affect my chances for getting into a good college?
well, a lot also depends on what you plan on majoring in in college....certainly if you're planning on going into a field heavy on math or science, then colleges will focus in more on the classes you've taken in math and science......as for this D.....i'm in a very similar boat in that I'm a high school senior and just made my first 'C' in AP Calculus......All of my other report card grades are 'A's but i was afraid that this C would keep me from getting into the college of my choice.....and while C's and D's aren't GREAT, my friend told me something that makes me feel a lot better......on the transcripts that your high school sends to the colleges you apply to, your OVERALL grade in all of your classes is what is given, not semester grades or 9 weeks grades.....so that makes me feel quite a bit better knowing that this 'C' won't being hovering over my head for the rest of the year......and the same goes for your 'D'....just work hard and pull it up :-).....if the class should honestly be an honors class or an AP class when it isn't....then drop out.....because colleges won't see the extenuating circumstances when they look at your transcript.....
Reply:It's based on your overall GPA, which looks good.
Reply:But what is that "D" in? AA2?
See if you can retake the course and have it expunged from your record with a better grade
Reply:It shouldn't, because it will be pulled up in your average. Plus you can put a positive spin on it in your college essay's by pointing out how you learned and grew personally from struggling, but not always succeeding, and how that helped you grow as a person and student. Your overall marks and activities, not one lower mark will pull you thru, so good luck.
Reply:Technically, it might or WILL....if ur trying to go to a UC or CSU or even a private university....then they're definitely WON'T ignore it.....the better way is to retake that class until u get a C or better grade....then you're definitely will be ready by the time u apply.
