If you were the commisioner, what would your rules be on steroids?

Mine would be this:





1st offense:1 year


2nd offense: 3 years


3rd offense:lifetime ban from anything affiliated with mlb(includes managing, announcing, hall of fame)





c'mon its pretty much cheating for your own good

If you were the commisioner, what would your rules be on steroids?
First time, warning. 2 year suspension. Second, your BANNED. Forever. Also, records set by known steriod users would NOT be accepted. The old holder will get the title back.

1st offense 1 year ban and a fine (no rookie of the year) if they are a rookie.





2nd offense 2 year ban a bigger fine and automatically out of consideration for the hall of Fame.

2nd offense - banned from all things MLB
Reply:even though steroids are wrong... let's be serious... steroids make you stronger but they can't improve your hand-to-eye coordination which is how a player makes initial contact with a baseball in order to hit it...


1st offense 1 year ban plus spend a week with Bob Costas


2nd offense 2 year ban plus spend a month with Bob Uecker


3rd offense banishment from anything MLB related plus all records officially stricken from the books regardless of when the records were set...
Reply:If I was the Commissioner.. there would be blood samples as well, by now.. and the first offense would be 3 months of games. A second offense, would be 3 years out. (lifetime bans are too harsh, for something that was done by 1,000s of players from the 80's, to today)





There would be no Conflict of Interest with the Boston Red Sox (and no current/phony 2-year 'investigation' that's fooling the casual fans %26amp; soccer moms, with a retired buddy %26amp; Red Sox board of directors)... Please let me know, the 1st time a Red Sox player is isolated and suspect (when in fact, you'd THINK that at least Big Papi, Manny Ramirez and even Julio Lugo would be suspects?). What about Timlin? What about Roger Clemens.. especially how he bulked up while IN a Red Sox uniform, then fell apart... only to find a way to regain his strength? (which is called his 'workout regimen', but most other players with THAT change of a physique would be under suspicion faster than you can say Sammy Sosa). Meanwhile, Sammy's OK to come back.. and why exactly? (so he can taint the 600-HR level?)





Also, I would re-check the records of the ONLY player of the Steroid Era that glided into the Hall of Fame without suspicion.. and guess who that is? Talking about trivia? he hit 4hrs, 1st full year... 4hrs, 2nd full year... then, in his 3rd? boom! 31hrs... right in the dawn of Steroid Era.

You lose the right to negotiate a contract for more than league minimum, for anything but one year in duration with no incentives and no signing bonus.

Banned for life.








Mind you, I would also ban from covering MLB, any media source that quotes 'un-named sources' in outing players prior to concretely establishing guilt.





Guilt would include grand jury testimony without a viable sample too.
Reply:Lifetime is a little harsh. A player getting caught taking sterioids equals 81 games. 2nd time the whole season. 3rd time the whole season + 162 games. Lifetime ban should be given to someone who takes sterioids for at least 5 seasons in my opinion,
Reply:The answer to this question is really the problem. The commissioner is not able to implement rules of his own or rules representing the desires of the owners. It is a collective bargaining agreement issue and nothing can be implemented without the approval of the players union. I really don't believe the rules you suggest would ever be approved by the players union, at least without a big fight. At this point in time nothing can be implemented until the next bargaining agreement, we will see how far both sides are willing to take this issue.
