I didn't do my best at my GCSEs. I only managed to get 4 C's
I managed to get into 6th form college. I am now taking
3 A level subject English lang/lit, law and sociology.
I really enjoy the subjects but i am starting to find them difficult.
Today i found out about a tutorial college which offer GCSE/A LEVEL studies. They offer one to one tuition, At £15,000 a year. And have had amazing results with there students. Some even going to oxford.
I am not rich and my family cannot afford to pay for me to re-take.
So this is my plan: to leave college and find a full time job and save £15,000. And when i have enough money pay for the tuition.
What do you think?? I don't think i have a good chance of passing my A levels and also getting into university as i only have 4 C's which is awful...
Please can some advise me on what to do as im stressing myself out : (
Advice please...?
You ought to discuss this with somone who knows you really. Somone who understands what you're capable of academically because it is a lot of money.
It's not that I don't care. But it's your future and it's too important for me a stranger to give advice to you a youngster who wants to make the right choice.
I really do wish you all the best.
And don't stress yourself out. It'll come good you'll see. Just keep doing what you're doing. Keep looking for answers in all kinds of different places including within yourself.
Reply:Ok.. well you've obviously got a good head on your shoulders as you're considering all your options.
I'm 17 + I'm in my second year at college. A-Levels are hard, and even though i had really good GCSES i struggle. I dont think the answer is to drop out..+ how long is it going to take you to raise the money? Without A-Levels you're likely to be working in a supermarket..i work in Tescos on SUNDAY alone + i hate it. You do not want to be doing that.
You're obviously dedicated so I'd try and do this. Firstly see all you're teachers + explain that you're finding it really hard. If they're half decent they'll offer to help you one to one (for FREE) or in workshops. Or, have you got friends that could help tutor you? Do lots of background knowledge into topics you don't understand, make good notes at the end of each topic which helps you revise for tests, ASK if you don't understand.
You need to work your butt off, just think of how much it will pay off. Plus you'll need the study skills you get now for university. PLEASE don't drop out it will be such a waste of time.
I'm sure you can do it if you really try.
I hope that helps + if you're studying biology, chemistry, french or law, i've got really good notes which i could send you?
Good luck,
x
Reply:your lucky to get 4 c's i got 1 c 2 d's and 4 e's so count yourself lucky!
Reply:Do not leave college!
New plan, Try and get good results, apply yourself and if you then fail/do not do as well as you wanted, get job, save money then retake.
you do not need to do well in school to do well in you career but it helps.
there are some great vocational courses out there (training on the job) which you can end up earning a very good wage from once you have completed the courses.
But do not leave college now. what a waste of your time spent there so far!
Reply:I guess you have to ask yourself how long it would take to save £15000. I assume that you would live with your family but if you are earning would they expect you to pay a share of food etc. So saving £15000 could take a while. At least two years in a best-case scenario I would think.
Have you spoken to your teachers! (I am a teacher by the way). We really like to know when someone is struggling and sometimes they don't admit it until it is too late. Be prepared to ask for help, to listen and to put in the work as I am afraid the jump to A-level from GCSE is still quite high.
Personally I always feel that if you can it is best to do the A-levels at first attempt. Don't be afraid to ask for help it is what we are paid for! If you feel you need to redo GCSE's later there are various ways you can do them a lot cheaper than £15000!!
Alternatively are there any other colleges etc in the area which offer alternative qualifications you might be interested in.
Do you know what you want to do after A-levels? If not do you have a local Connexions or careers advice centre at your college. Go and talk to them, get ideas about alternatives.
Above all, don't give up. Relax and regain control, talk to somebody soon as.
All the best
