Starting 8th grade?

hi! Last year, my school year in 7th grade was the worst! i did good in the beginning, butthen started to drop from A's to c's then to D's and then sometimes to F's. I was miserable. Inever showed it at school but at home, my parents would always get an e-mail from my teacher saying that i didnt get my HW done. Its not because it was hard, or my friends are bad influences, or my teachers didnt teach, i really had no clue why this was happening. I always got grounded and yelled at all the time. It was the worst year of my life. I have sat down with my parents several times and talked about and also went to counciling for it. Just for some reason i didnt know y i didnt do my HW. My parents had also had parent teacher conferences several times. I am not a bad child. I have 3 other brothers and are doing good. I managed at the end of the year to get 1 A, 1 C, and the rest B's. My parents werent that happy. Ijust want to know how to do better this year. I am really nervous. Afraid! help! :)

Starting 8th grade?
Make yourself a plan. Stick to your plan. If the plan is not working, revise it. Your intention is the key thing. If you intend to do your homework and make a plan to do it, you will do it.

I suggest you consider including the following in your plan: Keep a notebook for each class. Take notes during instruction. Ask questions when things are unclear. Get help after school if you need it. Write your assignments down in your planner. If there is no assignment for a class write "nil" or "no homework" or "0", or something that will let you know that there is no assignment for that day. If you just leave it blank you might not know whether there is no assignment or you FORGOT to write it down. Set up a particular time and place to do your homework. Keep the tools you need in your homework spot, such as a dictionary (or online access to dictionary.com), pencils, pens, erasers, pencil sharpener. Complete your assignments on the day they are given even if they are not due for a few days. This will give you a chance to discover whether you need to ask your teacher additional questions in order to complete the task. Review your class notes everyday. This is another way to find out whether you understood what your teacher taught or if you need to ask questions. This will help you to be prepared for tests. Always turn in your homework on time, even if you could not finish it or did not understand it. If you don't finish, write your teacher a note explaining why. If you do not understand something, tell your teacher that. If your teacher provides a study guide for a test, be sure to answer all the questions as completely as you would for the actual test. This plus your daily review of notes will probably be the best preparation for a test you could have. When you have a major project or paper assigned make sure you have the due date in your planner and make sure that you include work on the project in your planner daily. Break the project down into sections and assign work on the sections for each day. Keep your papers organized and tidy. Always put assignment papers, notes, completed assignments in the correct location so they do not get lost and you do not have to hunt for them. Have a different color of pocket folder for each class and put completed assignments in the front pocket. Then when you get to class you only have to open the correct folder and there will be the assignment ready to turn in. Keep socializing to appropriate times. If you are socializing when you should be doing something else in class, you are going to miss things you need to know.

Reply:Hey Emma,

Woohoo! I am a freshman now. More stress to worry about! Listen 8th grade was a bit tough for me but i eventually learned how to get through it.

Fortunately for me being smart runs in the family, i did very well in english, history, tech, and yearbook but fell behind quickly in math and science. Factor out completely 144a2z4? Uh, excuse me, are you speaking French? Build a dot diagram for the following equation H4Ni8? Great, spanish now. Not to mention you were taught it all in 1 or 2 days and expected to learn it in time to take a test on it the next week along with three other lessons. It was all hectic for me. I undoubtedly did not grasp one bit of math, but fortunately learned something useful from science. And on top of it all i was in a club and a sport every quarter.

I apologize in advance if i scare you. Things looked up though, i went to tutoring any day that i felt i needed extra help on a class or homework assignment. And i even stopped by my teachers classrooms in the morning or sent them an email if i had any additional questions.Plus, i took notes in class on things i didn't understand well enough to remember off the top of my head.

Every day i came home from school i would sit down at the kitchen table and lay out all my notes and assignments. I would choose the hardest thing so it was fresh in my memory and go from there. Eventually as the year went on i had a steady system in place and finished up the year with a b in science and a b in math.

Things get better, you just have to believe in yourself. Email me if you have any other trouble when the school year starts, i'll be there, i promise.

Take care and best wishes,

MoNoPoLy.
Reply:Immediately upon the first day of school seek out your guidance counselor and explain the situation to her/him. Sounds to me as though you are suffering from anxiety and depression. If you do not seek help this will snowball and it will be harder and harder to recover from. Please talk to your counselor as soon as possible. I work with children with behavior/emotional disorders in the public school system. Our administration, including our counselors are on the school campus at least 2 weeks before school actually starts. Maybe you can call your counselor and set up an appointment to meet before school starts? Try it!
Reply:Its okay u will do fine...try to ask ur teachers for extra help and try to focus more on ur work!! Good luck!! :)
