The Dutch were able to establish exclusive trade ties with many foreign powers because?
The answer is D. I can only give evidence from two particular locales.

1. The Shogunate allowed the Dutch to be the only ones to stay in Japan because they didn't bring missionaries with them and they were more than willing to sell cannons and guns. This was mostly done in opposition to the Spanish and Portugese who's missionary efforts had sparked the wars against the Christian samurai. It was expanded to include the English and the French though because they wouldn't confine themselves to Nagasaki, make efforts to contain their own nationals bent on missions, or sell guns.

2. In North America the Dutch were regarded as the best people to trade with by the east coast First Nations because they offered to trade in guns, other weapons, liquor, and silver. At first the French and English were both engaged only in the trade of textiles, tools, and baubles and were heartily opposed to the Dutch program for fear of Aboriginal agression. They eventually relented and started a similar trade when they realized they could never gain the same time of influence in North America until they started the same "immoral" trade.
