ok, my friend already posted for me (so nice) but let me explain more specific
1. i got this hal.dll missing when i start my computer
2. i tryed with dual harddisk and try to install only that missing file
3. still not working
4. i repaired with xp cd
5. still the same
6. i had three partitions, windows 98(C), windows XP(D), my stuff(E)
7. i managed to go inside through dual harddisk but i can't access E(?) it says "bad sector, do u want to format"(i did'nt do anything)
8. i tried to re-install XP with i go inside it shows only my D drive in the format place (its not showing my other drives)
iam just trying everywhere possible to get the datas back
IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET IT BACK?
Hal.dll missing?
To restore missing system files, go on the start menu and click Run. In the box, type "sfc /scannow" and press OK. Windows should check all the sytem files and restore any missing ones. You might need the XP CD if there's any missing.
Reply:Sorry I didn't realise exactly what the problem was. John L's answer is basically what I would have suggested had I realised that you couldn't access the operating system at all. Sorry =( Report It
Reply:Boot the Windows operating system CD and choose the option to ""repair" (you want the recovery console, This option will prompt you for the Windows installation to use (usually 1), the administrators password (if no password press enter) and will allow you to restore the proper file. At the MS-DOS prompt type the below command.
expand x:\i386\hal.dl_ y:\windows\system32\
X= your cd drive letter usually d or e (if it's d then it would look like this:
expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ y:\windows\system32\
